Each step below is accompanied by a short instructional video. If you’d rather watch a single video, this longer video combines all the steps into one.
Feel free to pause it as needed as you go through the steps.
Let’s begin!
1. Prepare your computer.
Make sure you’re using a desktop or laptop computer (not your smartphone).
If you aren’t already using Google Chrome as your internet browser, please visit google.com/chrome to download and install it on your computer before proceeding.
2. Create your account.
If your provider hasn’t already created an account for you, you’ll need to create your own.
Open Google Chrome and navigate to https://kaleidoscope.openmotion.ai/.
Select the green Click Here link to create a new account.
Select Patient as your account type and follow the on-screen prompts.
3. Set up your charging pad.
You’ll need to charge your BioSleeve for about 30 minutes before you can use it. Start by setting up the charging pad.
Insert the larger end charging cable into the wall plug block.
Insert the smaller end of the charging cable into the charging pad.
Plug the wall plug block into an electrical outlet.
Place the charging pad on a flat surface with the feet facing down.
4. Charge your BioSleeve.
Leg sleeve
Place the sleeve on a flat surface with the fuzzy side facing down.
Fold the straps in and fasten them.
Locate the notch on the edge of the sleeve near the battery pack (the larger of the two rubber packs).
Put the charging pad UNDER the battery pack and align the light on the charger with the notch on the edge of the sleeve.
Arm sleeve
Place the sleeve on a flat surface with the fuzzy side facing up.
Put the end straps through their loops and fasten them. Roll the center straps inward.
Locate the notch on the edge of the sleeve near the battery pack (the larger of the two rubber packs).
Put the charging pad UNDER the battery pack and align the light on the charger with the notch on the edge of the sleeve.
NOTE: IF THE CHARGER LIGHT IS OFF OR BLINKING, THE SLEEVE IS NOT CHARGING.
Adjust the position of the sleeve on the charging pad until the light is solid blue.
Get ready to start your exercises!
5. Put on your BioSleeve.
Leg sleeve
Sit in a chair with the sleeve in your lap.
Locate the sensor pack (the smaller of the two rubber packs).
Place the sensor pack against the outside of your calf and fasten the strap.
Fasten the other strap around your thigh.
The battery pack and sensor pack should be touching your clothing or skin and the fuzzy side of the sleeve should be facing out.
Grab the knee support strap and place its velcro against the outside of the sleeve. Fasten it around your knee.
Adjust as needed.
Arm sleeve
Lay the sleeve on a flat surface with the battery pack and sensor pack facing up.
Put the end straps through their loops but don’t fasten them.
Identify the battery pack end of the sleeve and insert your arm through that end.
Insert your hand through the wrist strap and tighten it.
Tighten the upper arm strap and secure the center straps.
Adjust as needed.
6. Pair your BioSleeve with your computer.
Using Google Chrome, navigate back to https://kaleidoscope.openmotion.ai/.
Enter the password you created to log in.
Click CONNECT DEVICE at the top of the screen.
A device window will appear. You should see your sleeve’s serial number (beginning with BGX) in this window. Select it and click Pair.
Don’t see your sleeve in the device window?
If you don’t see your sleeve’s serial number in the device window, you may need to update your computer’s Bluetooth settings.
Click the Windows icon and start typing Bluetooth in the search bar.
Select Bluetooth and other devices from the search results.
Scroll down to the Device settings section. Click where it says Default and select Advanced instead.
Close the settings window and go back to Google Chrome. Click CONNECT DEVICE and follow Step 6 above to try again.
If you still can’t connect, follow these steps to reset your BioSleeve.
7. Calibrate your BioSleeve.
After you pair your BioSleeve with your computer, you’ll be asked to perform a simple movement that tells your sleeve which way is forward. This is called calibrating your sleeve.
Select the arm or leg you’ll be wearing the BioSleeve on and click Continue.
Click CALIBRATE in the Device Details window that appears.
Select Posed Calibration.
Watch the short how-to video and click BEGIN CALIBRATION.
Follow the on-screen prompts to calibrate your BioSleeve.
8. Do your exercises.
On your patient dashboard, click SESSION.
Select an activity from the library and click START PROTOCOL.
Watch the short how-to video and note how may reps and sets you’re supposed to complete.
Do your assigned reps and sets. Click COMPLETE ACTIVITY to save and finish.
Make sure to do your exercises facing the same direction you were facing when you calibrated your sleeve.
If you need to change positions, no problem! Click your sleeve’s serial number at the top of the screen and click CALIBRATE to redo the calibration process.
Important safety considerations
Range of motion
As you do your exercises, the circle in the middle of the screen will show your joint angle in real time.
Adjust your range of motion to stay in the green part of the circle.
Red indicates you are beyond the safe range of motion prescribed by your doctor.
Passive and active exercises
Assigned exercises are either Passive or Active, as indicated by the red or green bar at the top of the screen.
Passive exercises should be done with assistance, such as leaning on someone else or using an uninjured arm or leg to support the injured arm or leg.
Active exercises should be done without assistance.
Pay attention to the exercise type and make sure to do all passive exercises with assistance. Performing them unassisted can cause injury.
9. Rate how you feel.
When you’ve finished all the reps for an exercise, click COMPLETE ACTIVITY.
Enter any notes/comments you have for your doctor in the Activity Notes box and click COMPLETE. You can leave the box blank if you don’t have any comments.
Use sliders on the right side to rate how you felt while doing the exercise and click EXIT SESSION.
10. Charge your BioSleeve between uses.
When you’ve completed your exercises for the day, fold your sleeve and place it back on the charging pad.
Remember, you may need to move the sleeve around a bit on the charging pad until you see the solid blue light.
Let your sleeve charge for at least 30 minutes.
11. Complete your remaining PT protocol.
Next time you log in, click CONNECT DEVICE to pair your BioSleeve with your computer again.
Select an exercise from your patient dashboard and follow the on-screen prompts to complete it.
Leave feedback and click EXIT SESSION to save your progress.
If your BioSleeve isn’t working
If your BioSleeve doesn’t seem to be working, you may need to reset it. To do this, you’ll need a magnet.
You can use the magnet your BioSleeve came with (the metal disc that looks like a watch battery) or a common refrigerator magnet.
How to reset your BioSleeve
Lay the sleeve on a flat surface with the fuzzy side facing up.
Place the magnet over the sleeve’s battery pack (the larger of the two panels) and move it around as if you’re using it to wipe up something that spilled on the sleeve.
Fold the sleeve over to reveal the smaller rubber panel. A blinking red light on this panel indicates the sleeve was reset successfully.
If you don’t see a blinking red light, try the wiping motion with the magnet again.
Once your sleeve is reset, you will need to go through the steps above to connect and calibrate it again.
